Trey Cooks finished his sophomore season at Coalinga College with a total of 1022 yards, averaging 92 yards per game. He played his season at 6'1" and 225 pounds, making himself an issue for the defense to deal with. Averaging 5 yards per carry, he was always a dependable source to get the few extra yards needed for his team. He ended his football career at Coalinga College with a total of 1096 yards, 7 touchdowns, and the longest career touchdown being 61 yards. He was named an Acedemic All State athlete his sophomore season. He was also named team captain, an RA for his dorm of all athletes, and was always a leader in the weightroom. He always tried to bring his faith into his athletics by leading the team prayer every day as well as being the leader for his school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes program.
In his senior year, Trey scored 23 touchdowns and averaged 130 yards per game in the 2022 season before he graduated. He was also a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side. At 6’1” and 220lbs, he was a standout linebacker at AHS with 50 tackles his senior year, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries, one for a 65-yard touchdown.
Trey was also voted 2022 Football MVP by Atascadero High, the CIF Ocean League player of the year, and the San Luis Obispo County Tribune Newspaper Athlete of the Year. Trey has shown the utmost persistence and tenacity to maintain his schoolwork and remain physically active. He lettered in 3 sports, including football, wrestling, and track. Wrestling in the 220-pound weight class, he progressed to CIF divisional and masters’ tournaments. In track, he placed in CIF Sectionals at shotput.
He and his brother are sporting their 2022 CIF State Championship rings.
Trey graduated with a 3.47 GPA and is currently holding a 3.8 GPA at West Hills College, being named an Acedemic All-American player. He is planning to major in Mathematics/Engineering. He is a leader in his community and church, serving as AYSO soccer referees, helping instruct at youth football clinics, and speaking at middle school rallies about playing sports in high school. He is a member and leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at his college and helps in all local activities, such as local food drives, city auctions, and other activities in his community.
Trey comes from academic and athletic background.
His cousin, Elijah Cooks, is currently playing wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, after highly successful seasons at UNR and San Jose State and completing his degree.
Trey’s parents were college athletes and grads.
Dad, Roosevelt Cooks, played linebacker and was defensive MVP at Fresno City College earning the Wall of Fame honors. He was also Defensive MVP at University of Nevada, Reno as they tied for the WAC championship with Boise State. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UNR.
His Mom, Natalie Cooks, was also a college athlete, playing soccer at Fresno City College, Fresno State, and Vanguard University, before earning a bachelor's in Kinesiology and a master's in Exercise Physiology at Fresno State.
His Aunt Riley Cooks (Dad’s sister,) was an All-American heptathlete at Long Beach State. She also trained for 3 years at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, while
competing internationally.
On top of his incredible natural football talent, Trey is a very hard workers and very kind human being. He knows what it takes to be a great teammate and win championships while maintaining a humble attitude. There’s no doubt that he would make a lasting mark on your football program and institution.
